2015 Great American Cleanup!
Please come on out and lets get Bluefields looking clean and green on Saturday April 11th from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m *... all neighbors and friends are welcome to pitch in and help!
Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest community improvement program, takes place annually from March 1 through May 31, involving an estimated 3 million volunteers and attendees. Bluefield Avenue in particular has accumulated trash over the winter in particular at entrance areas and our focus is to pick up trash from one end of Bluefields Avenue to the other to make sure that the great landscaped common areas are our major attraction as folks drive thru our neighborhood (we also believe this will deter people from discarding trash along Bluefields Avenue). We will be setting up 2 primary stations in Bluefields as we did in 2014...
Station 1 - Donelson Pike / Bluefield Avenue Entrance - Maggie Sidelinger leading team.
Station 2 - Lebanon Road / Bluefield Avenue Entrance - Peter Beare leading team.
Station 3 - Cumberland Circle / Overhill Circle - Ray Mosley leading BHA team.
Our Smart Growth Team will be also working on fine tuning our newly landscaped Bluefield Avenue Triangles to make sure they are looking great for spring as well as discussing Phase II Revitalization Plans on Bluefield Avenue.
If any Bluefield's residents want to setup another station on your street let us know and we will add you to our list. Spring Valley Lane which is a popular cut thru has also accumulated a lot of trash over the winter and it would be great to get a new team to tackle that area pending our numbers of the day...
Here is some pics from 2014 to get you motivated!
We will be getting tee shirts, work gloves and trash bags from from Metro Beatification and the Gateway Project. We will have trucks located at each entrance/work area to carry the bags of trash to Nashville's Omohundro Garbage Facility.
After we have Bluefields looking great we will be hosting our first ever Bluefield's "SAUSAGE SIZZLE" to feed our wonderful volunteers. (Please bring your own drinks). The Beare Family will be hositng the Sausage Sizzle at 2622 Bluefield Avenue starting at 11:00 a.m.
What is a SAUSAGE SIZZLE?
Sausage sizzles are a common Australian and New Zealand charity fundraising and community event. Consisting of a gathering where a barbecued sausage is served on a slice of white bread or on a bread roll, and may be accompanied by tomato sauce, mustard, and sometimes barbecued onions. All ingredients are usually purchased as cheaply (or donated) as possible, so as to maximise fundraising. In Australia, fundraising sausage sizzles are a common tradition at federal and state elections. (In other words a Sausage Sizzle is a really cheap way to say THANK YOU!).
* Date changes from March 28th to April 11 due to cold weather forecast for Saturday!
